Overview of Mastering Emotions

Mastering Emotions is a straightforward, easy to understand course that teaches the skills of Emotional Intelligence (EI). EI is the ability to recognise and manage your emotions and respond well to the emotions of others. Mastering Emotions is suitable for workplaces and private individuals.

EI has four quadrants: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness and Relationship Management. Mastering Emotions shows you why all of these skills are so important.

Emotional Intelligence

Business and organisational leaders realise that dealing well with emotions is crucial to working effectively, especially amidst economic change and uncertainty. Emotions can be tested and resilience strained. Behaviour can be highly charged, erratic or out of proportion with events. Feelings are hurt, self-esteem weakened and workplace outcomes adversely affected.

When leaders and staff are challenged by unexpected or unwelcome events, they need personal resources to fall back on. Understanding and managing emotional responses will help workplace leaders and others to prevent and minimise damage. They will be better able to cope when the unexpected or the undesired occurs. When staff manage their emotions well, workplaces function more effectively.

Losses resulting from poor behaviour are reduced or even eliminated. Workplaces benefit by an improved workflow. Individuals benefit, as they are less stressed when they understand and manage their own and others’ emotional reactivity when stress or change occurs. It makes sense to learn these valuable skills, so that you have them when you most need them.

In private life also, knowing how to respond appropriately to family, friends and loved ones can save relationships from deteriorating or even failing. The inability to appreciate different perspectives and reactions can have disastrous results. When you understand how each person can perceive the same situation differently, you have a head start in responding with more care and empathy.
